ADDRESS DELIVERED ON THE LUNCHING OF BOOK ‘THE ONE POUND BABY GUSANDRA AND OTHER SPIRITUAL JOURNEYS’

Man does not need man, man needs God; and when man really needs man, God sends angels to man

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is one of the many inspirational messages I received over the years to help me continue my earthly mission.

My angels, I bid you a very good evening and Gods blessings.

This evening there is so much joy in my heart, I can do no better than to read excerpts from previous addresses I read to you over the

years. Twenty-three years ago I told you of my mission for Jesus which has been at most times frustrating, and although my assignment

was foretold, never for once did I foresee the pain, agony and sufferings that would have afflicted me during my journey.

On my road to Adelaide, then Frances and onwards to our present complex, I met and fought with living creatures here in our beautiful

St. Lucia. There were many obstructions and defections while I made my lonely journey, but I also told you of the concern and presence

of the “Veronicas” who wiped the tears and sweat off my face. And as I journeyed the many miles, were the “Simon’s who helped me

and offered bread as I struggled to carry my elderly and destitute. But in spite of the trials was my mother Adelaide in heaven keeping a

watchful eye over her son. While I kept meditating on our Lord I concluded, that if our Savior were to come to St. Lucia as a mortal being

doing good, He too would be ridiculed, laughed at and tortured in the same way He died for us 2,000 years ago. To you the Veronicas

and the Simons present this day I say thank you for believing in me and supporting the cause of the poor, sick and destitute of our

country. Your place in heaven is assured.  I wish to reiterate to you Ladies and Gentlemen that we can hold all the key positions in our

country and amass all the wealth including big mansions during our early lives, but these material things will not make us happy in our

pre-terminal years. What we would need then is someone to love and take good care of us when we are lonely, bent, frail, blind and

possibly senile.

Thirteen years ago at the grand opening of our complex I lamented on earthly treasures when I told you that we came to this world with

nothing and so shall we take away nothing with us.  I reminded you that in one year alone we saw the passing of some beautiful people

in the likes of Mr. Henery Giraudy, Mrs. Phyllis Mc Namara, our beloved Eden Hinkson, past Governor General Sir Allen Lewis, parish priest

of Soufriere Fr. Rabout drowned days before he was due to leave on vacation, Mr. Jeff Curley 37 years – general manager of Hess who

was hit by a car while jogging – he too was due to leave on vacation, my prayer warrior friend Mrs Beryl Felicien, Mrs Elaine Thomas and

Coco Charles.

In just a little over four months this year we mourn the lost of Marcia Pilgrim,  the sudden death of Anna Auguste, Peter Caldron,  John La

Force  just to name a few.

Brothers and Sisters some of us are already playing our part in whatever way we feel we can do it best, whether it be via the institutions

or directly giving a meal on a Sunday to an elderly. Whichever way you choose to do yours – you will find the peace, health and

happiness which the few of us have been enjoying ever since we made that pledge for Jesus.

Brothers and Sisters, I must again bring you back 23 years ago when I first started my mission where I told you that the Adelaide’s Home

belongs to God and not Justin or for that matter his family, but a home where the elderly of our country will find peace and tranquility

while he or she rest awhile before meeting our father in heaven. I have since kept my promise to you and as of January 2005 the

Augustus Edwin Justin Foundation was officially registered with the mandate to expand and continue this great work of humanity long

after my death. Madam Suzie D’Auvergne and Mr. George Theophilus are the first two directors.  It is also my wish that our homes will

always remain that home for those persons, who through no fault of theirs may have fallen on difficult times. The Adelaide & Frances or

the “Gus Care for the Elderly” will provide that care needed in the final years of our lives.

Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, you heard right; it is because of my continuing concern for the future of our elderly and poor here in St. Lucia,

that plans are now well underway for the commencement to build another home to be named “The Gus-care Home for the Elderly”. This

modern 2 storey 20 bedroom block will be constructed on a 3 quarter acre parcel of land with administrative building thereon for our

gentle folk of yester-year.

Gus Care

Brothers and Sisters, for some of us our time is shrinking fast and it is our Lords wish that we must attempt to leave behind monuments

of love for the next generation.  After the start or completion of this final project for my God – I can say here and now my friends, that I

will be ready for whatever eventuality that may follow.

Today I feel happy and proud as a St. Lucian to be doing my bit for God and country, and until I am called-up for promotion to the spirit

world, my physical self will be very much present at these homes.

Only this morning I had a family meeting thanking my children for their love, sacrifices and support during my journey thus far, and

reminded them of the values I tried to inculcate in them at a tender age during and after our nightly prayer sessions, whereby I would

ask the Almighty for the health and strength to engage myself fully in my profession; and a share of which would be set aside for

comfortable living conditions for the poor and the elderly. This I told them but also dramatized it in the best way I could. And it went like

this: “Guys - I had a vision that I was dead, and at my funeral when my body was being entered into the tomb, my friends were sad and

weeping except my children who clustered together and chanting “ All is mine, all is mine, all is m-i-n-e !  and I told them little did they

realize that I was hearing their hymn of praise and I resurrected from the grave and sang the chorus; Not this time, not this time, not this

time, not this t-i-m-e.

Phyllis by this time hearing all the laughter and commotion in the semi-lit bedroom, seeing me draped in white bed sheet exclaimed “you

always telling the children papyshow”! At this time of speaking all my children are in full support of my mission and tonight I wish not to

dramatize, but instead to ask you to partner with me in order to help make a difference in this society which we all love dearly. In the

next coming months I will be seeking cabinet’s support and your continued help towards this latest expansion. I pray that our

Government will see the need to assist the Foundation and to help alleviate some of the social problems which exist in our society.

Just allow me quickly to thank her Excellency Governor General Dame Perlette, Dr. and Mrs. Kenny D. Anthony and other dignitaries for

being here this evening; my first two directors of the Augustus Edwin Justin Foundation - Suzie and George; my administrator Mrs.

Albertha Ellis; Hon Msgr. Father Patrick Anthony, Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Johnson, Virgil Leonti, Mrs. Ophilia Marie of Dominica, Mr. Gerry

Benjamin of Antigua, my Martinique connection friend Mayor Thelmancy, the anonymous web site donor who has found it fitting for the

Home to have its own web site, contributors to the book – Mr. Errol Auguste, Mr. Jones Jn, Baptiste, Mr. Dennis Dabrero, Mr. and Mrs.

Kenneth Morgan, Mr. Willie James, Mr. Malcolm Charles, Mr. George Williams (now Fr. Williams); special thanks to my wife Phyllis, Dr.

Gusphyl Justin, Andre Justin and wife Jeom, the Justin and Edwin families, Friends of the elderly in association with the Adelaides Home

and all of you here present this evening who stood with me to help make my life what it has been. I say Thank you! Thank you!! Thank

you!!!
